As December unfolded, I immersed myself in the dual challenges of training as an IT Service Desk Assistant, working 1-2 days a week from 8:30-18:00 and maintaining a 40-hour night job. Balancing the demands of London's costly living, I've struggled to find time for yoga and have, unfortunately, slipped back into unhealthy eating habits, resulting in some weight regain after a successful 10kg loss through keto.
The completion of my IT Service Desk Assistant training marked a crucial step. Armed with a professionally written CV, I've begun earnestly applying for jobs. Focusing on networking, cybersecurity, cloud, and programming, I strive to keep my skills updated. The recently acquired Google IT Support certification from Coursera and ongoing studies in practical pen testing contribute to my growing expertise.
Admittedly, December brought its share of challenges. I've battled feelings of pessimism, constant fatigue, and brain fog, feeling stuck in a draining lifestyle. While implementing home workouts to boost my mood, I recognise the need to prioritise self-care. Despite the hardships, I remain committed to gaining valuable experience from my part-time IT role.
My goals include securing a full-time IT job within the next 2-3 months. Recognising the impact of diet on mood, I plan to reintroduce fasting to get back on track with my health regimen. To anyone feeling down, remember that challenges are temporary and brighter days are ahead. I wish strength to those navigating career changes, especially in a foreign country at the age of 34, like myself.
December tested my resilience, but I remain determined to improve my family's life. Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I appreciate your support. Stay tuned for more updates and recipes in the coming months.
A Day as an IT Service Desk Assistant:
From 8:30 to 18:00, my day starts with the essential morning rituals—coffee and docking my laptop. I dive into the day's tasks by checking emails and tickets, ensuring urgent requests are promptly addressed. To maintain a sense of direction, I open a notepad or Word document to create a daily plan—a crucial step, especially during busy periods.
The core of my role involves assisting students and teachers with myriad requests. Whether it's troubleshooting connection issues, accessing software, or providing hardware support, I'm the go-to person for problem-solving. Imagine students bringing their devices, asking for guidance on connectivity, or seeking assistance when something isn't functioning as expected. Room checks, projectors, printers—everything needs meticulous maintenance and checks.
What if I encounter something unfamiliar? Admitting not knowing is part of the process. I gracefully excuse myself, seek extra time, and collaborate with engineers to resolve the issue, making it a valuable learning experience. This routine continues until 6, with a lunch break in between.
Though this is a condensed overview, the reality involves dealing with calls, remote desktop support, and troubleshooting—a dynamic aspect of IT support. As a newcomer, I share my current experiences, knowing that my role encompasses a broader spectrum.
With its diverse challenges and learning opportunities, this job is truly fulfilling. I find immense satisfaction in helping others navigate the intricacies of technology. It's a role I wish to embrace full-time, and if you're a hiring manager reading this, I welcome any opportunities to connect and discuss how my skills can contribute to your team. Feel free to contact me—I'm eager to explore new possibilities in the IT realm!
As promised earlier, I'm excited to share a festive recipe: the 'Beigli Cake.' Although this recipe is not mine, I find it very tasty and easy to make, and I am happy to share the video, which helps you to follow along. Watch here!
As we bid farewell to December, let's usher in the New Year with resilience and hope. Despite any challenges, keep pushing towards your goals.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year filled with determination, joy, and success! Remember, you've got this!
